Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients:
    • 1 cup whole wheat flour (120 grams)
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder (optional)
    • 3 teaspoons sugar (or to taste)
  • Wet Ingredients:
    • 1.5 to 1.75 cups milk (or as required)
    • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (or neutral-flavored oil)
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (or ¼ teaspoon vanilla essence)
  • For Waffle Plates:
    • Butter (unsalted) or neutral-flavored oil, as required, for brushing

Method

  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, salt, cinnamon powder (if using), sugar, and baking powder. Whisk well and set aside.
    • Preheat the waffle pan or waffle maker.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients:
    • Heat milk in a saucepan on medium-low heat until hot but not boiling (steam should appear). Stir occasionally.
    • Add unsalted butter to the hot milk and mix well until melted.
    • Stir in vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
  • Prepare the Batter:
    • Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently whisk to combine into a smooth, pourable batter.
    • If the batter is thick, add ¼ to ⅓ cup more hot milk. If too thin, add a few tablespoons of wheat flour.
  • Make the Waffles:
    • Brush the waffle plates with softened butter.
    • Pour ⅓ to ½ cup of batter onto the waffle plates, spreading evenly.
    • Close the waffle maker and cook for 7-8 minutes or until the waffles are crisp and golden.
    • Remove the waffles gently with a wooden spatula. Repeat the process, brushing butter on the plates before each batch.
  • Serve:
    • Serve the waffles hot or warm with your favorite toppings such as syrup, fresh fruits, or whipped cream.
